The Cardiovascular, Digestive and Rheumatological Biopathology research area brings together a wide range of predominantly clinical research groups; this area is mainly structured around the research activity of three clinical departments: Cardiology, Rheumatology and Gastroenterology.
It is a very strong area in terms of the scientific productivity of its associated researchers, with a high number of research projects secured through competitive calls. Likewise, they have a high level of activity in carrying out and coordinating clinical trials. Most of the groups that make up the area have close collaborative relationships with research groups at both national and international levels, which results in greater and high-quality scientific productivity.
Among the strategic lines to be addressed in this area over the next 5 years are, primarily, achieving the consolidation of the clinical research groups within this area, in addition to boosting the creation of new research lines within these groups. Another considered strategic line is for highly promising young researchers to consolidate their emerging groups, thereby fostering greater scientific productivity and thus increasing the chances of securing research projects in competitive calls at both national and international levels, in order to consolidate and strengthen the area itself. Another milestone to be achieved for this area is to increase scientific productivity by publishing in top-tier journals, increase the number of pre-doctoral researchers, and maintain or even increase the number of clinical trials managed by research staff belonging to this area.
