The Clinical Pharmacology group carries out scientific activities in the field of clinical evaluation and regulation of medicines and healthcare products, pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology.

In addition to the group's own projects, there is significant activity in collaboration with other groups and departments of the hospital. Part of this collaborative activity is carried out through the CTU (Clinical Trials Unit) of Clinical Pharmacology. The CTU provides researchers at the IIS Puerta de Hierro with regulatory and ethical-legal support, methodological and scientific support, support for conducting the clinical trial, a phase I unit and support for the inclusion of trials in the Spanish (SCReN) or European (ECRIN) multicentre networks. The Clinical Pharmacology CTU has taken part in more than a hundred clinical trials in the last 5 years and currently has around 40 ongoing clinical trials carried out in collaboration with 11 clinical departments: Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Haematology, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Preventive Medicine, Neurology, Paediatrics, Rheumatology, Cardiology and Traumatology.

The Clinical Pharmacology department is also home to the technical secretariat of the Research Ethics Committee (CEIm).
