Background

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of senile dementia worldwide and is characterised by progressive cognitive impairments (such as memory problems, disorientation, learning difficulties and impaired spatial perception). In a person with Alzheimer's disease, amyloid plaques are observed in the cerebral cortex, and β-amyloid is the main component of amyloid plaques. Various therapeutic agents have been proposed for Alzheimer's disease. Unfortunately, however, there is currently no effective therapeutic agent.

La invención

The present invention relates to a cell composition estromales mesenquimatosas (MSC) for preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases, in particular for preventing or treating Alzheimer's. This is a cell suspension comprising autologous or allogeneic expanded mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from the bone marrow of a human subject, wherein said MSCs are suspended in the plasma fraction obtained from the peripheral blood of a patient or subject to be treated with the cell suspension, for use in the treatment or improvement of a disease with altered cerebral glucose metabolism, wherein said cell suspension is administered to the patient or subject intrathecally (via intrathecal administration), in particular by lumbar puncture.
