Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit

Scientific Culture
and Innovation
Scientific Culture and Innovation Units (UCC+I) are the main agents for disseminating and communicating science between their host institutions and the public.
The UCC+I of the Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda – Segovia de Arana Health Research Institute (IDIPHISA) has the main objective of communicating and disseminating research results generated within IDIPHISA and the Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda Comprehensive Cancer Centre (CCC Puerta de Hierro). In this way, it promotes scientific culture and knowledge in science and health, bringing science closer to society and patients.

Objectives
01
Research dissemination
Disseminate the research results and scientific knowledge generated at IDIPHISA, bringing science closer to society and encouraging scientific vocations.
02
Training for research staff and patients
Training for research staff will include scientific communication and outreach strategies, as well as advice on communication plans for research projects in order to encourage their participation in disseminating their research.
03
Communicating scientific knowledge to empower patients through coordination with the School for Oncology Patients
Health-related decision-making by patients will be encouraged, and they will be provided with tools to manage their lives with greater autonomy and confidence, thereby helping to improve their health and quality of life.
04
As a cross-cutting theme across the objectives presented above, work will focus on ensuring more accessible, inclusive and equitable scientific communication for the whole population.
05
Accreditation as a UCC+I within the FECYT UCC+I Network in 2027
We encourage IDIPHISA research staff to participate actively with the UCC+I by sending their recently published peer-reviewed articles, as well as their scientific communication and outreach initiatives.
Our Services
Scientific Publications
- If you publish a scientific paper and want it to be promoted to society.
- Send us the scientific article, together with the publication details and a representative high-quality image or photograph of the research, laboratory or team.
- We draft the news item in direct contact with the research staff, and it will have your approval before it is disseminated.
We will coordinate with the Hospital's Communications Unit to facilitate the dissemination of your results to the media and their publication on the Hospital's website.
Scientific conferences
If you present your results at a national or international conference, you can contact the UCC so that it can promote the research activity of the research staff. Send us the information and attach an image from the scientific event.
Science outreach activities
If you would like to participate in or propose outreach activities, contact the UCC so that it can collaborate in organising them.
Project communication plans
If you apply for a competitive research project that requires a communication plan, contact the UCC for advice on drafting the communication-plan proposal. If the project is awarded, the UCC will participate in implementing the project's communication plan.
In-house outreach projects
If you have your own outreach project and would like to collaborate with the UCC to promote your content or develop a joint project, contact the UCC.
Other outreach activities
If you take part in other scientific outreach activities, contact the UCC so that it can publicise your participation on social media and promote the contribution of research staff to the social communication of science.

You can contact the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit through ucc@idiphim.org:
- If, as a research group or member of research staff, you already organise outreach activities or have proposals for activities.
- If you want your research results to be disseminated to the public.
