• The research group on the neurobiology of attachment was established at Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro – Majadahonda in June 2009, a few months after the opening of the new hospital's Maternity and Neonatology Department. It is a multidisciplinary team made up of psychiatrists, neonatologists, obstetricians, midwives and nurses involved in childbirth and postpartum care, with professional and research experience focused on the perinatal period. All members carry out their research work alongside their clinical duties, which involves a significant additional and voluntary effort.

• Since the group was formed, it has been considered a priority that research be as respectful as possible of families' emotional and psychological needs at such a vulnerable time as childbirth. Non-separation and support for breastfeeding are promoted at all times, in line with the hospital's care approach and with the Normal Childbirth Care Strategy promoted by the Ministry of Health since 2007.

• Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda has committed to being a reference centre for breastfeeding support and has been accredited as an IHAN Hospital (Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative), an accreditation awarded by UNICEF
