The Otological Research Group is made up of researchers with complementary profiles, with a clinical focus predominating among most of its members. However, some of its members have maintained a basic-clinical vocation since its beginnings, more than 30 years ago. During this long period, different lines of research have been developed aimed at understanding the aetiopathogenic mechanisms involved in various inner ear diseases such as ototoxicity, immune-mediated inner ear disease, sudden deafness, acoustic trauma and presbycusis, among others. The design of various therapeutic approaches has made it possible to more effectively target the drugs used to treat inner ear pathology, thanks to collaboration with other groups and institutions. New formulations are currently being developed that will facilitate the passage of drugs into the labyrinthine fluids, maximising their therapeutic effect and minimising adverse reactions.
