Our scientific activity focuses on everything related to mechanical ventilation in both adult and paediatric patients, and in both anaesthesia and intensive care ventilation.
At the animal experimental level, we have 5 open lines of animal experimentation on mechanical ventilation:
1. Mechanical ventilation and its implications at the cerebral level.
2. Lung recruitment manoeuvres.
3. Lung-protective ventilation in anaesthesia.
4. Lung-protective ventilation in Distress.
5. Safety of lung recruitment manoeuvres in neonatal anaesthesia.

All these lines are currently open, and will complete the experimental phase this year, and we hope to begin publishing them next year.
We are taking part in 3 multicentre clinical trials:
• iPROVE, on lung protection in general surgery, whose first preliminary study was published this year, with two further derived studies still to be published.
• POWER 1 and POWER 2, on enhanced recovery programmes in general and orthopaedic surgery; POWER 1 has already completed patient recruitment this year, and POWER 2 will begin next year.
• Single-centre clinical trial with Dr Jessica García Suárez as PI. Comparison of two types of cardioplegia: del Nido cardioplegia vs conventional. It has already been approved and is in the patient enrolment phase.
We have 5 established annual national courses:
1) VENTIMEC: which held its 17th consecutive edition this year, training 150-200 professionals annually, from Spain and other nationalities, such as Portuguese and other Spanish-speaking countries.
2) Mechanical Assist Devices Course: held biennially, updating professionals from all over Spain on the different devices used to artificially assist patients with cardiac or respiratory dysfunction.
3) Paediatric Anaesthesia Course for Nursing: this course started with 2 editions this year, and plans to hold 4 editions a year.
4) Critical Care Course for Nursing: held once a year, to train ICU nursing staff in mechanical ventilation, sedation and advanced support techniques.
5) Locoregional Anaesthesia Course: biennial. Aim: comprehensive training in ultrasound-guided locoregional blocks.
International courses:

European Expert course in Mechanical Ventilation. This year we are holding the 8th consecutive annual edition of this European advanced mechanical ventilation course, with speakers coming from all EU countries.
