External Scientific Committee

The External Scientific Committee of the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria Puerta de Hierro is the advisory body to the Governing Council.

Composition

It is made up of scientists and research managers of recognised scientific and professional prestige, who contribute their experience in developing the institution's actions and policies, always within the vision and, above all, the values of this institution.

Its current members are:

  • Prof. Dr. Mariano Provencio Pulla. Scientific Director, IDIPHISA. Chair, External Scientific Committee
  • Prof. Dr. Rafael García de Sola. Professor of Neurosurgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
  • Prof. Dr. Eduardo Sotomayor. Vice President and Executive Director, Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Cancer Institute
  • Prof. Dr. Ángel Carracedo Sanz. Professor of Legal Medicine at the Universidad de Santiago and Director of the Fundación Pública Galega de Medicina Xenómica
  • Dña. Carina Escobar Manero. President of the Patient Organisations Platform (POP)
  • Dña. Dolores Moreno Molino. Alcaldesa del Ayuntamiento de Majadahonda
  • Dra. María del Mar Vales Gómez. PI, Immunology and Oncology Area of the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB), CSIC.
  • Dra. María Yañez Mo. Senior Lecturer at UAM and coordinator of a Research Group at the Instituto Universitario de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa.
  • Dra. Gema Moreno Bueno. Professor of Biochemistry at UAM, Associate Professor at the University of Texas & MD Anderson Cancer Center, trustee of the AEEC Scientific Foundation and Head of External Relations for Conexión-Cáncer CSIC.
  • Dr. Lluis Blanch. Director of the Instituto Universitario Parc Taulí-UAB and national coordinator of the ITEMAS platform
  • D. Francisco García Novell. Spanish journalist and writer with an outstanding career in the media, especially in television and literature. UNICEF Gold Medal for his work on children's programmes
Functions
  • Ensure the scientific quality of its activities and compliance with research procedures.
  • also contribute to the improvement of the scientific activities carried out at the IIS Puerta de Hierro.
  • Promote research among the centre's own researchers
  • Establishing guidelines for the interaction of the IIS Puerta de Hierro's research groups with existing research groups at other centres, companies and organisations.
