The Carlos III Health Institute has published the provisional funding decision for the 2026 Research Projects call of the Strategic Action in Health (AES). It includes seven projects from the Puerta de Hierro–Segovia de Arana Health Research Institute (IDIPHISA), covering various areas of biomedical and health research.

The projects proposed for funding are:

  • Prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections in individuals with spinal cord injury through faecal microbiota transfer (UROBIOTAM). Principal investigator: Antonio Ramos, from the Department of Internal Medicine. Proposed funding: 162.500 €.
  • Development of immunotherapies for gastrointestinal tumours based on bispecific antibodies and adoptive cell therapy. Principal investigator: Laura Sanz, from the Department of Immunology. Proposed funding: 189.375 €.
  • Study of the epigenomic profile of follicular lymphoma and its relationship with genomic and microenvironmental alterations to improve clinical risk stratification. Principal investigator: Margarita Sánchez-Beato, from the Department of Medical Oncology. Proposed funding: 319.625 €.
  • Study of the effect of anifrolumab and belimumab on cardiovascular risk and subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with lupus. Principal investigator: Susana Teresa Mellor, from the Department of Internal Medicine. Proposed funding: 122.500 €.
  • Identification of biomarkers and immunological mechanisms of response to a combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Principal investigator: Alberto Cruz, from the Department of Medical Oncology. Proposed funding: 471.875 €.
  • Application of artificial intelligence and predictive models to pre-eclampsia to characterise clinical profiles and long-term cardiometabolic risk (PRECARM-MLX). Principal investigator: Víctor Moreno-Torres, from the Department of Internal Medicine. Proposed funding: 31.125 €.
  • Analysis of the epidemiology, clinical impact and disease burden associated with infections caused by multidrug-resistant microorganisms in Spain. Principal investigator: Mireia Cantero, from the Department of Preventive Medicine. Proposed funding: 71.250 €.

These projects reflect the diversity of research areas pursued at IDIPHISA, ranging from infectious and autoimmune diseases to oncology and the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare. However, the funding awards and amounts indicated remain provisional, pending publication of the final funding decision.

Through this call, IDIPHISA continues to strengthen its research activity and develop new projects that advance knowledge and improve healthcare.
